RADCLIFFE DAWSON Forester's Beach. NSW Recorded 5-10th April 1973
Note: Learnt from singing of his mother. The Dying StockmanOh a strapping young stockman lay dyingHis saddle supporting his head And comrades around him were crying As he leaned on his elbow and said As he leaned on his elbow and said Oh wrap me up in my stockwhip and blanket And bury me deep down below Where the dingoes and crows won't molest me In the place where the coolabahs grow x 2 Oh if I had the flight of a bronze wing Away to my true love I'd fly Straight to the home of my childhood And there I would lay down and die x 2 Oh there's tea in the battered old billy And the pannikins all in a row So drink to the next merry meeting And say that a stockman lies low x 2 Oh wrap me up in my stockwhip and blanket And bury me deep down below Where the dingoes and crows won't molest me In the place where all good stockmen go. |
