COLLECTED MATERIAL

"My father as a coach builder and we lived in Wattle Flat. Later I joined the SMH as a machinist. A good man, Mr Connolly, had persuaded them to purchase some new printing machines from Canada; They were a lot of money – 32 or 35 pounds each. They were lino type. We had to hand set everything and we had a little machine to hand cut the colours. There were no dryers in those days and it all depended on the oil. It would take 3 weeks to dry anything."
