LARRIKINS LOUTS AND LAYABOUTS

  • A NOTE ON THE MUSICIANS
Over the years I have been most fortunate to sing with some outstanding musicians and fellow travellers. The Larrikins, as a performance group, was always designed as a 'moveable feast'

so I could bring in particular musicians for particular projects. It was never intended to be a 'bush band' and I think we successfully avoided that tag. Not that I am shy of bush bands but it wasn't the sound I had in my head. I wanted, and I believe we achieved, to develop of catalogue of songs that were accompanied by music that represented the songs around the peak of their popularity. This is part guesswork but the jingling Johnny and tea chest bass were not quite suitable for many of the story songs. I also made a point of singing the bush repertoire much slower than usual. There were other musicians who dropped in for a tune or added a chorus and I thank them one and all.

The following musicians play on the two recordings:

    • Dave de Hugard plays button accordion, piano accordion, anglo concertina.
    • Bob McInnes plays fiddle and mandolin.
    • Cathie O'Sullivan plays celtic steel-strung harp and tin whistle.
    • Chris Kempster plays guitar.
    • Andy Saunders plays fiddle, mandolin, tin whistle and guitar.
    • Andrew de Teliga plays mandolin, fiddle, guitar and whatever else is in the studio.
    • Declan Affley plays guitar and tin whistle.
    • John Morris plays guitar.
    • Margaret Walters added a few choruses.
    • Jacko Kevans plays piano accordion and anglo concertina.
